Five for Ten : Lust

Lust

a fleeting monster with a pretty face and a tempting smile
what you first see
what you first feel
what draws you together
what makes you stop thinking

it's a place to get lost in
to fall into
to revel in
an indulgence, decadent and passionate

and then it changes
the hunger eases
the thinking returns
no longer lost
but still falling
falling deeper, but with eyes open

life brings surprises,
weddings
jobs
houses
children
distractions
time-stealers

and then it is a memory,
the hunger, the longing
just a memory
but reality is here
now
better
stronger
real
lasting

Love

Great post. I think you do a great job demonstrating the sometimes futility in lust for things, etc. I like how you end with love.

I really liked this piece.

I like how you suggested lust turns to love. That's how I think, too.

I like your piece. I was trying to write something more like this.....i got to like 700 rambling words. So I trashed it and talked about babies

But you explained it perfectly and so simply, the path from lust to love

Ah, yes. Lust into love. I see this. I feel it. I know that it is true. I love the love in my life. The love I hold within me and the love that holds me. But I'll be damned if I don't wish for some of that lust back. It's the couples that have been married 40 years and still seem to want nothing more than a roll in the hay together that I admire the most. How do they do it? Just how?

It is funny how at first, lust cancels out all brain activity. :) Thanks for taking me back.

Lust turning into love? Yes. Yes it does. And sweetly so. But I miss the days of lust taking over everything else. Of being able to fall deep into it...for hours or days at a time. Now, it is minutes. And they fly by too fast. And sleep calls my name. Sigh. Growing up can be so sucky!
